Liking cute things doesn’t mean I’m not serious. Or that I don’t have something serious to say about cute things. Cute as a word is—more often than not—used in a dismissive and paternal context, at least in my experience. This is not so much an all-encompassing erasure of the word cute as it is about scratching out that particularly dismissive use of the word “cute” to define, diminish, dismiss, and deny.
