Although the modern quilting movement can often take inspiration from Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism, I took inspiration for this quilt from another Modernist art movement—Dada. Dadaists used irrational and absurd methods for artworks-as-political-protests against violence, war, and toxic nationalism at the turn of the 20th century. Using a stream-of-consciousness approach to appliqué and piecing, I created a reality within my quilt-world as a gesture of resistance in the Dadaist spirit.
