The performance Farming + LVLUP!    for the Art in Odd Places Festival (Indianapolis, 2014), reinterpreted the process of videogame farming in a physical, public space. I “farmed” paper gems through the repetitive process of cutting, folding, and gluing small gem sculptures that weregiven away to passersby for free. With each gem I gave away, an 8-bit sound effect played through an amp, indicating that that we had “LVLed UP.” Through the free distribution of these handcrafted gems to others, we earned +1 spirit, +1 stamina, +1 intelligence, and +1 strength as a player.

I cut, folded, and glued gems and gave them away.  Everytime I interacted with the public--giving away these handcrafted gems and stickers--I played an 8-bit "level up" sound through the small speaker pictured at the front of my portable work station.
